My drawings, paintings and mixed media artworks examine the ambiguity and origination via variations. I work to increase the dynamic between audience and artist by objectifying emotions and investigating the duality that develops through different interpretations.
My drawings are notable for their perfect finish and tactile nature. This is of great importance and bears witness to detailed craftsmanship. By focusing on techniques and materials, I make work that deals with the play of such media and the question of how they can interact not only with one another but in concept as well.
Each piece begins with a hand crafted wood panel. Using oil paints, the wood is glazed to allow the natural patterns to show through. Appropriately, these grains, made from water, become water-like designs for the setting of each composition. Once dry, the anthropomorphized, fish-like creatures are freehand drawn completely with colored pencils alone. Having yet to explore the vast majority of our oceanic depths, it is intriguing to find that life forms further down are often extraordinarily diverse and peculiar. This notion is tied together in the realization and similarity to ourselves expressed in the humanistic features as well as the inventive lineaments of each creature.
My works are an investigation into representations of depictions and ideas that can only be realized in drawing. I consider making art a craft, which is executed using clear formal rules. They never show the complete scene. This results in the fact that both artist and audience can easily imagine an own interpretation without being hindered by any concrete description.
